This contemporary basket is made using the interlace technique. Willow has been repeatedly woven, threaded and curved to create the feeling of fluidity and movement across the surface of the form. This piece was one of the first large scale interlaced baskets i made. I aimed to create a broad edge to the opening of the basket. I was inspired by large scale hand built ceramic vessels which have small bases and curved sides.
The willow is grown organically here in King’s Cliffe.
Originally designed as a non-functional basket, some customers who buy these baskets do find a use for them. Looks great as a centre piece on a table or side board.
