This beautiful traditional French basket was taught to me by basketmaker, Francois Desplanches. We call this technique open work. The structure allows air to flow through the contents of the basket. So ,, for example, food would keep for a little longer than if it were stored in a solidly woven basket. The Dicky meadows willow is grown by Kirk here in King’s Cliffe.
